Professional Cost Benefit Analysis Services in UAE

If you are a business in the UAE, how sure are you that your return on investment (RoI) is maximized every time you invest or work on a new project? Several indirect costs make it confusing for businesses based in Dubai to tell whether a project makes financial sense.

These include raw materials, manufacturing expenses and employee impact. Without proper cost analysis, even potentially advantageous opportunities could consume valuable resources. They could also hinder financial performance.

How a cost-benefit analysis is decided

A cost-benefit analysis lists all costs and benefits of a proposal over its life. It converts them to present value using a discount rate that reflects risk, then compares the totals. Common outputs are net present value, payback period, and benefit-cost ratio.

The conclusion is sensitive to three assumptions: the discount rate, the forecast volume or savings, and the timing of costs. We show how the result changes when each is varied. This way the decision is not hidden behind one figure.

A worked discounting example with real numbers

Suppose a machine costs AED 400,000 today and is expected to save AED 150,000 a year for four years. At a 10% discount rate, each year's saving is divided by 1.10 raised to the year number. The present values are about AED 136,360, AED 123,970, AED 112,700 and AED 102,450. These add up to roughly AED 475,480.

Net present value is that total less the AED 400,000 outlay, so about AED 75,480. The benefit-cost ratio is 475,480 divided by 400,000, or roughly 1.19. A simple payback, which ignores discounting, is 400,000 divided by 150,000, or about 2.7 years. Reading all three together is more useful than reading any one of them alone.

Costs that are easy to leave out

Most weak analyses fail because the cost side is incomplete, not because the maths is wrong. Before we run any numbers, we go through your proposal with a checklist of items that are commonly missed:

  • Training time and the temporary drop in output while staff learn a new process.
  • Annual maintenance, licence renewals and insurance on the asset or system.
  • Working capital tied up in extra stock or longer customer payment terms.
  • Financing cost, whether bank interest or the return you give up by using your own cash.
  • Input VAT on the purchase, where you should confirm whether it is recoverable for your type of supplies.
  • Exit or replacement cost at the end of the asset's useful life.

Break-even and sensitivity tables

Once the base case is built, we find the break-even point: the level at which net present value falls to zero. In the example above, the annual saving could drop to about AED 126,190. At a 10% rate, the project then stops paying for itself. That single figure tells you how much room for error the plan has.

We then produce a low, base and high case, a one-page register of the assumptions behind each, and a short written summary. You see which assumption moves the answer most. This shows where to spend time checking evidence before you commit funds.

More questions

Which discount rate should we use?

There is no single correct rate. It should reflect what your capital costs you and how risky the project is compared with your normal business. We state the rate we used, explain why, and show the result at a higher and a lower rate so you can judge the effect.

What information do you need to start?

We usually need a description of the proposal, quotes or cost estimates, and your last year of management accounts. We also need your expected sales or savings with the reasoning behind them. If some figures are rough, we mark them as estimates in the assumptions register instead of presenting them as facts.
